Since the Game Perfect World and Qworld, Perfect World Ltd. is well known in South Asia. Many USA players would bear the lag and would take the risk to play the PH version. Finally they released the Peferect World International.

Let us take a look at their latest product, an upgraded version of Q-world Online, which is now open beta in mainland China: Kou Dai Xi You, temperilay we name it: Pocket WJ.

Character Sheet

Nothing creative, just like the normal products from Perfect world, there are three races you can choose: Human, God and Devel. In each race, you can choose 6 classes. Different from other games by Perfect World, there will be a pet born with you. You can input your birthday when creating your character.

First Log in

When you first log in the game, if you play Phoenix Dynasty Online, you will have ideas what it is - Five Element System. In this game, designers "borrowed" a lot of concepts from other Chinese MMORPG. The designers also considered the convienence for the newbies and  want the players to read the basic information when logged in. But it’s really hard to find "X" button and I doubt if players will read it since most of us just click the "X" button and continue the training.

Training

We have just completed first couple of levels and training seems to be easy. Just Talk to the NPC who has something on  the top of their head and follow the quest. Since they have GPS system, just click the NPC in green name in quest pannel and you will go to find the guy easily.

But just a few minutes, we feel the game is boring. Quests are just grindy quests like they have in Q-World, Chibi Online etc. We didn’t find anything outside the box. Maybe the only interesting thing is the cute pets.

Graphics and Effects

Since they use the same game engine, the effects are just as awesome as in other perfect world games. You can see the effects from the following screenshots.

Pets

The game company advertised this game as the most cutest 3D pet game. We have noticed that they "borrowed" the eudemons concept from Eudemons Online. You can summon your pet and combine the pet to your character. You can capture all monsters to be your pet, which feature could be found from the game called Legend of Golden Plume.

Pets are divided into 9 factions. Each faction has restrictions and generations. This is fun when PK. You have to know this when you see your enemy’s pet.

Fly

As you know in Perfect World Online, there is a race have special ability and they can float and fly in the sky. In this game, no matter what race you choose, you can have the ability to fly. When you reach Level 10, you are able to accept a quest and then you can fly. The following are the images when you fly.

Conclusion

Pocket Western Journey is just another Perfect World’s combination product. They borrowed a lot of concepts welcomed in Chinese market and impliment them into the game. But as to game play itself, there isn’t any break-through. More and more players are tired such kind of games. If you like pokeman, you should try it when you have a free afternoon and decide whether you are willing to stay or remove it from your hard disk.

Recently we have just downloaded the latest game Chibi Online from Perfect World Development Team. Now Chibi Online is in Open Beta in China. Since perfect world use the same 3D Engine, so we don’t think there are so much differences in general appearance - it’s still the most beautiful world you are going to explore.

Chibi means a Red Cliff, as you may know a movie called Red Cliff, alternatively known as The Battle of Red Cliff. You can find more details about that well-known battle in Chinese history from Battle of Red Cliff.

01. Combats: All kongfu movements are captured from a kongfu master called Andy Lin. Every movement, attack or a block  is captured from the real kongfu.

02. Weapons: There are hundreds of weapons in ancient China. These weapons in general were called the Eighteen Arms. As to most of us, sword, spear and bow are well known in current mmorpgs. In Chibi Online you will be able to get the chance to know the rest of Eighteen Weapons. Currently only 4 weapons are open in Chibi Online. The Eighteen Arms are:

03. State War: Since the game sets up its background on the history of Three Kingdoms period (for more details please check wikipedia.org by searching Three Kingdoms), there are 3 forces in game. Currently we are familiar with the 2 forces battle mmorpg: A battles B. But what will happen if we add a C when A and B are planning to battle? Will C go to help A or B? Or just wait and to conquer both of them?

04. Legion: That’s the normal guild system. We won’t talk much more since most of us know what it is.

05. Card: Currently we still can not figure it out in official website. It says it can help players to recall the past and record the history. Players can also use this card information to get unique titles, skills, equipment. Since we are in low level and we are still unable touch this part of the game.

06. Mandarin: Bureaucrat system. Currently this system is pretty hot in Chinese mmorpg. Players can get different equipment, skills and reward from different mandarins. It’s a kind of position in your game world society.

07. Living Skills: Same as others in other MMORPGs.

08. Instance:Same as in other mmorpg. But instances are designed mainly on the Chinese Three Kingdoms’ history.

09. Battlefield(Honor Killing): Nothing differnct from those in other mmorpg. It also contains a PK Arena.

10. Reputation: It’s very important to gain your reputation points. Just like reputation system in phoenix dynasty online, you need to use reputation everywhere: gaining equipment, wearing equipment, lvling up your skills, gaining higher rank in mandarin system, entering different areas etc.

Some thoughts from first 10 levels in Chibi Online

We have just downloaded the game and played our characters to level 10. It took us more than 1 hour time. That’s the main problem in current free mmorpg: too many quests. Maybe newbie quests are designed for those who never played mmorpg before. Since nowadays over hundreds of games are coming out, we don’t think we need so many quests in the newbie village. Nvm, let us find something difference in this game.

01. Autopath System

In Chibi Online, you do not need to remember the locations of maps and NPC. Just click the name of the NPC/Quest Items/Mob names and your character will move to the place automatically. All click-able NPC/Quest Items/Mobs are in green color. So that is very convenient for players. Currently almost every Chinese mmorpg has this function implemented into game now. Not many Korean MMORPG support this function. So as to this system, we think Chinese mmorpg companies did a good job since nowadays it’s a headache to find your way home in most mmorpg - map is way too big!

02. Click to level up

Different from most other 3D MMORPG, in Chibi Online, you need to click the Level Up button to upgrade your character’s level. If you do not click the Level Up button, you can still gain the exp. by completing quests or killing mobs, but your attributes will remain as it is.

This setting tells us that, in Chibi Online, exp can not only be used to upgrade character’s level; it also can be used to upgrade the skills/weapons etc.

This system is passed down from the previous games from Perfect World. Players can easily to check the status of their quests. As you can see from the picture:
